Last Circulating 90% Silver Quarter
1964 was a pivotal year for the United States Mint. Not only did it see the release of a new John F. Kennedy half dollar, first struck just months after the former president’s assassination, it was also the last year the Mint struck high-purity 90% circulation coins. One of those coins was the George Washington Silver Quarter.
First struck in 1932 as a one-year commemorative coin to mark the 200th anniversary of President Washington’s birth, the coin was so popular that it replaced the Standing Statue of Liberty as the country’s circulating quarter design. We recently acquired over 500 of these 1964 Washington Silver Quarters at the “Mother Mint” in Philadelphia. What’s more, each one is a beautiful proof coin, featuring a frosted design and a mirrored field. Now’s your chance to snag a set of ten of these key date coins for your collection before our stock runs out!
